ASPETUCK / USA

Aspetuck is an American producer & DJ fascinated by groove & rhythm as well as the hypnotic nature of the deeper sides of electronic music. Currently based in upstate New York, he has released music on a variety of labels including Oslated, a sublabel of Wex called Telomere & his own label Never Late.

Growing up in sleepy Vermont, without easy access to any inkling of a nightlife scene, the internet was Aspetuck's only form of musical discovery for those formative days. Years later, after living in both Brooklyn and Los Angeles, Aspetuck was very quickly drawn into the robust nightlife cultures of both cities that were so absent in the rural hills of the northeast.

He is not only inspired by the current scene but also heavily inspired by genres outsideof the contemporary electronic world including but not limited to krautrock, dub, new wave / post-punk, shoegaze, jazz, soul & funk.

Immersing himself in both music production and photography, two creative outlets that seemingly complement & balance each other, he is quietly finding his voice with the help of a broad range of influences to draw from.

Arovane2000x1000.jpg

AROVANE / Germany

Uwe Zahn has been a driving force behind the IDM sound and analog experimentation for over 15 years. His early releases on City Centre Offices created a new era of music for electronica fans, and his unique production techniques saw legendary album such as Atol Scrap (2000) and Lillies (2004) cemented as the genre's best.

Uwe said Goodbye in 2004 and made a surprise return on n5MD in 2013 with Ve Palor. Since then, Arovane has been relentless in the studio, and this first album with ASIP saw him partner with good friend, Hior Chronik on "In-between". This was followed up more recently with their second collaborative work, "Into my own", which deeper explored the duo's refined talents within melodic electronica, ambient and modern classical.

ChristianKleine1000x500.png

Christian Kleine / Germany

Christian Kleine was part of a small but impactful community that eventually formed a cult artist roster on the City Centre Offices label. His background began in New Wave and Punk, eventually transitioning into DJ’ing in the early 90’s and then, into more electronic productions, with Jungle and drum’n bass his first muse. Christian was on the hunt for something different to what Berlin had to offer at the time, and with his first synth, (Nordlead 1995) and an Atari computer, Christian was creating his first drum’n bass tracks, sending them off to the local radio station, (Kiss FM) where he met future production partner and CCO label head, Thaddeus Herrmann

Sunday morning studio time alongside Thaddi (as Herrmann & Kleine), jam sessions with Arovane, and coffee with Ulrich Schnauss, continued to inspire and push Christian’s style. This small but influential group of producers would go on to define a melodic, and introspective style of music that now has a cult status amongst IDM, ambient and electronic music fans.

Becoming tired of functional productions, Christian was always interested in finding his own place and language, and continued to experiment further. Taking his inspiration from drum’n bass, and the company of City Centre Offices artists, Christian defined his unique style we know today. Intelligent drum programming met an ethereal and melodic synthesizer style. A delicate and introspective listen, or a hazy layer of bubbling activity and color, Christian’s music defies function and invites you into a world of personal reflection.

Comit / ASC / USA

Born out of his love for music that was often classed as ‘IDM’ during the mid-to-late 90’s, and labels such as Morr Music, City Centre Offices, Merck and Hobby Industries, Comit is a new avenue for James Clements (aka ASC) that builds upon his background in drum & bass, his ambient projects for the likes of Silent Season and his admiration for a more nostalgic electronic sound.

It was this appreciation for early IDM that became the impetus for James' infamous Deep Space mix series in the early 2000’s and resulted in a brief output of inspired productions as both ASC and Intex Systems. But this sound never fully evolved until it became a devoted project. The first outing for the Comit alias came as a limited 7” on the Short Trips label in 2016 and is now finally presented in its realized form within Remote Viewing on ASIP.

In 2022, James presented a more minimal output focused on the piano under his ASC alias, titled Original Soundtrack.

Damm_BW.jpg

DAMM / Sweden

Joel Mull is more widely known over the past three decades for his techno output, regularly touring the world as one of Sweden’s most successful DJ’s. But ambient and electronica has always been at the heart of his expansive and well respected musical journey.

With a background studying classical music, singing in choirs and playing in bands, Joel found electronic music at a young age as a source of freedom. His first experience came from DJ’ing in the chill-out areas of rave parties in his native Stockholm during the early 90’s. It was here he honed his craft exploring new ways to present music as a DJ, outside of just beat-matching, bending the rules and creating a relaxing space outside of the often fast paced club music at the time.

He often refers to himself and his craft as a sound architect, and if you’ve ever experienced his club sets, you’ll understand why. Under his ambient and electronica alias Damm, Joel revives one of his earliest aliases and expands upon this discipline even further.

Releases:
Damm / Nautical Dawn (ASIPV025)

Deepchild / Australia

Deepchild is the production alias of Rick Bull, former Berliner, sound designer, DJ and university academic, whose echo-soaked, sonically dense techno and conceptual ambient work has seen him perform live in institutions spanning Berlin’s Berghain and Tresor, to the Sydney Opera House, Detroit Movement Festival, and countless club tours from Tokyo to Eastern Europe.

A distinctly tense yet darkly sensual take on techno futurism has spawned recent releases and remixes for labels like Mille Plateaux, Future Classic, BBE, Trapez, Affin and the artist’s own Seppüku Records.

Granular, noise-heavy, and smeared with signature vocal fragments, Bull’s work calls forth the 2000s micro-house and ‘clicks and cuts’ movement, welded to the insistent pulse of dub roots and culture.

Now based in his birth country of Australia, Rick’s work has expanded organically into sound design commissions and composition for film, games, and music-software companies including Native Instruments and Arturia. A continued obsession with ambient and generative, granular music continues to inform an ever-dedicated approach to sound design for body music in strange times.

DrAtmo2000x1000.png

Dr. Atmo / Germany

Frankfurt-born, Amir Abadi started working in a record store at age 14 where he soon quenched his thirst for a deep musical knowledge which still continues today, be it ambient; trip-hop; techno; Bowie or Deuter.

Amir studied architecture and designed Frankfurt’s first techno club, omen* for his friend Sven, going on to design the chillout club ‘XS’ for friend and DJ Mark Spoon, where he then began as a resident DJ. It is said Amir got his artist name, Dr. Atmo from Mark when he mixed Neu! with The Shamen one evening.

Amir is faithful to his various collaborations over the years with numerous exceptional musicians and a trend he is continuing alongside Mick Chillage, with his album Ruhleben, paying homage to his Berlin roots and his FAX heritage.

Brock1000x500.png

EARTH HOUSE HOLD / USA

A relentless ambient producer as bvdub, Earth House Hold is Brock's personal throwback to his most important past influential period. Years spent DJ-ing ambient chill-out rooms and deep house basements nearly thirty years ago are channeled into the purest manifestations and instruments from that era; with signature vocal effects, rumbling off-kilter bass-lines and slowly rising atmospheres blurring the boundaries between deep house and ambient music.

With his debut album under this moniker in 2012 “When Love Lived" now becoming a cult-favorite, it was the home of ASIP that encouraged Brock to revisit times past once again, releasing “Never Forget Us” in 2018.

GADI SASSOON / Italy

Gadi Sassoon is a composer from Milan of Syrian and Italian heritage.

Accomplished poly-instrumentalist and pioneering synthesist, he combines experimental systems and traditional techniques to create a sound that escapes definition: deep listening experiences rich in texture, detail and emotion, rooted in a surrealist vision of mutant orchestras and mathematical structures, often described by audiences as cinematic and immersive.

The narrative overtones of his music stem from years spent working behind the scenes as a composer with labels, publishers, film companies and the art world, appearing on major and indie records, soundtracks, orchestral productions and art installations. His works have been performed at Dolby Labs, Sonár Festival, CCRMA at Stanford, IRCAM at Centre Pompidou, NIME at Virginia Tech, Contemporary Musiking Hong Kong and TEDx LakeComo.

GastonArevalo.jpg

GASTÓN ARÉVALO / Uruguay

Isolationism, nature and literary texts are just some of the fundamental elements inspiring Gastón’s rich and textured ambient soundscapes.

Often embellished with field recordings and vivid abstract textures, Gastón’s productions bridge a gap between refined electro-acoustics and more traditional instruments such as processed Guitars or the classical Viola.

With a sound that could be described as the epitome of Pop Ambient - rich, warm and often melodic - Gastón’s music has been supported by producers in the same world such as ASIP’s Markus Guentner and has presented his work live at the Arquitectural De Stijl icon De Unie (Rotterdam, NL) and festivals such as Todays Art (Den Haag, NL) and Lab30 (Augsburg, DE).

Gastón’s notable debut full length on Oktaf (2013), was preceded by a cassette release on the Tapeworm Label (2012) and after a six-year hiatus, presents his new concept album ‘Terrain’, on A Strangely Isolated Place. This period of time allowed Gastón to develop his interest in new formats such as installations, where code, visual work and sound come together as one.

With the project now entering its second decade, Gunnar Jónsson Collider’s music continues to evolve whilst maintaining its exploration of transcendent sonic textures. PURL_2016_bw_mod_2000x1000.jpg

ILLUVIA / PURL / Sweden

Purl is the first artist name of the musician and composer Ludvig Cimbrelius. He began using this name at the age of 15, as a tribute to the sounds of nature that helped him rediscover inner peace. The intention behind Purl is to be an expression of the serenity and depth of our natural state. Purl has released a total of 21 full-length albums across esteemed labels such as Silent Season, Dewtone Recordings and Archives along with releases on his own imprint Eternell.

Ludvig’s artistry takes on many expressions. Whilst all are deeply rooted in a spiritual and ethereal sound, his most majestic output has arguably come to life through the Illuvia alias. Capping off a debut, self-titled album in 2017 with an atmospheric Drum and Bass track quickly sparked a two-year conversation between Ludvig and A Strangely Isolated Place to pursue a full record in this style.

James Bernard / USA

Sound designer, Gold Record-selling musician and audio engineer James Bernard is addicted to sound. As a young video game junkie in the 1980ʼs, James was immediately drawn to the quirky blips and bleeps coming from the speakers. After completing a course in audio engineering, James became involved in the early rave scene in New York in the early 1990s. He went on to become both an electronic musician with releases on many well-respected labels in the USA and UK and a sound designer/product specialist for major music instrument manufacturers (Korg, Propellerhead) and is currently part of the team at Spectrasonics.

His first release was the ambient album ‘Atmospherics’ on the well respected UK label, Rising High Records in 1994 and is considered by many to be one of the classic ambient albums of itʼs time. James also composes and releases ambient electronic music with his wife Cynthia as Awakened Souls.

Mick Chillage / Ireland

Mick Chillage has been producing electronic-based music since the mid 1990’s and is probably best known for his ambient works. His debut album Tales From the Igloo in 2009 was a kaleidoscope of his influences, embracing Electro, IDM, Dub and moments of cinematic ambience. 2011’s follow-up, FAXology saw Mick fulfill a long-time musical ambition to be signed on Pete Namlook’s FAX imprint. This lead to the ongoing collaboration with Lee Norris, aka Norken & Neo Ouija label founder as Autumn of Communion amongst other collaborations and a steady flow of solo albums on various labels from around the globe.

Mick's influences were first rooted in soundtracks; from the works of John Barry to Vangelis, and John Carpenter. Eventually in the late 80’s Mick discovered Acid House, Techno, and the Ambient movement of the early 90’s, which really connected with his senses & soul.

Mick has spent the last 25 years honing his distinct and subtle production and compositional style. Utilizing a selection of his favorite go-to synths, Mick likes to approach music with an open sonic canvas, sculpting sounds until an evocative inspiring aesthetic emerges, often emerging as long passages of improvisation on the keys or a simple moment that develops into unexpected sonic terrain.

His recordings heavily utilize field recordings, bowed guitars, piano, strings, and electronics, creating dense clouds of blurry, hypnotic sound that often have a mournful, elegiac quality. His use of ostinato phrases taps into minimalist ideals while atmospheric layers of effects suggests a more cinematic quality in his productions. In all, Irisarri’s compositions are deeply emotive and epic to the point of being symphonic.

swanasa / Hungary

swanasa (A. Abigél Bánházi) is an electronic music artist known for her immersive soundscapes that blend ambient, drone, and experimental elements with deep ecological and spiritual themes. Rooted in her connection to nature, swanasa’s work merges organic field recordings with synthetic sound design, exploring the interplay between the natural and technological worlds. Describing herself as “the magician of the boundaries of sounds,” she enjoys blurring lines and mixing contrasting elements, drawing inspiration from totem animals like the swan and crow, which symbolize transformation and inner wisdom.

Through releases such as When You Need to Rest, Let the Sounds Hold You and her debut on ASIP, Mirror EP, swanasa invites listeners into meditative sonic worlds rich with symbolic soundscapes and ritualistic rhythms. Her live performances, which have included opening for artists including Abul Mogard, emphasize deep listening and altered states of consciousness, creating transformative experiences that dissolve the boundaries between the physical and spiritual realms.

Viul & Benoît Pioulard / USA

Viul is Brooklyn, NY-based composer and musician Luke Entelis. Viul's previous releases include Bright Decline (Disques d'Honoré, 2019) and Outside the Dream World (Past Inside the Present, 2019).

Benoît Pioulard is the primary audiovisual project of Michigan-born, Brooklyn-based Thomas Meluch. With six LPs on the renowned kranky imprint, as well as a catalog of works for Universal (UK), Morr Music (DE) and others, he has constructed a unique aesthetic steeped in the textures of analog decay and pop song structure using chiefly guitar, piano and tape processing.

Their first release as a duo, Konec, was written and recorded in the earliest days of the pandemic and imbued with the concurrent dread, stillness and strange beauty of an abruptly-halted world. Collaborating since around 2002, their adventure began as half of an indie/post-rock band, gigging around Ann Arbor and Detroit to a positive response but no formal releases, and then evolved into a two-person drone-influenced side project, which featured one (the one and only) epic show. Since then, Tom and Luke have remixed each other's work intermittently with Konec considered the apex of their musical relationship so far.

Wanderwelle2000x1000.png

WANDERWELLE / Netherlands

Phil van Dulm & Alexander Bartels grew up in the same village in the suburbs of The Hague – a place surrounded by nature - one of the major sources of inspiration. Wanderwelle’s releases consist of rich, enigmatic storytelling concepts, often infusing field recordings, dub and techno styles amongst mystical, often tribal or ritualistic elements - the latter of which is most apparent on their two albums for Silent Season.

After their successful debuts and a recent collaboration album with Bandhagens Musikförening on Semantica, the duo applied their talents specifically for ASIP, creating a mysterious soundtrack focused on the countless faces of deterioration. Recorded in 2018, Wanderwelle’s first electroacoustic album is an anthological approach to a theme that is inseparable from our current global crises.

Yagya_1000x500.png

YAGYA / Iceland

Real name, Aðalsteinn Guðmundsson, Yagya is a humble pioneer of deep and dreamy dub-techno. Releasing under different alias such as Plastic and as part of the infamous Thule Collective, it wasn’t until his debut album under the Yagya moniker with 2002’s Rhythm Of Snow that the Icelandic producer started to make waves amongst the electronic music world.

Since then, Steini has continued to innovate and progress his sound through numerous (now infamous) albums where each one tends to strike a different chord with each fan you speak to. Be it the rain-soaked swells of Rigning, the multi-faceted Will I Dream During The Process? on Sending Orbs, or his vocal experimentations on The Inescapable Decay Of My Heart, Steini’s sound is instantly recognizable but always progressing.

With his release on ASIP, Steini has shown us his evolution into a much purer techno realm, all whilst retaining the magical sense of awe and escapism that is often found within his productions.
