xHtvNtWQ.png

I’m excited to be joining friends and legends on October 31st for a special 24hr live stream event hosted at Modern Therapy’s Twitch channel. I’ll be preparing a 2hr DJ set featuring spooky sounds and a bunch of upcoming ASIP material (surprisingly dark stuff it seems!)

Hope to see you there.

The official intro…

~

We may be in a pandemic, and the world in insufferable chaos, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still have fun! With Modern Therapy we aim to put the fun back into the individual's life by helping them step into their awakened selves—and what better time to awaken the dead than Halloween?
We’ve cooked up a 24-hour streaming adventure so you can rave and party in the comfort of your own home with trusted friends. Don’t worry about bouncers or security, just the dead trying to claw their way back into the fabric of reality on this spooky night.

We’ve got you covered with an all-star West Coast guest line up with
Mr.C  ||  Bunny (Rabbit In The Moon) || Tara Brooks || Jon Charnis || NIKITA || Ryan Griffin (ASIP) || Ron Levy, and of course, the Modern Therapy residents ChristianBarrMusic || Dance Spirit || Tatiana Alvarez

We’ll be streaming Coyote Boozy giving on-site tattoos for our on-site Cabin in the Woods house guests, a viewer Halloween costume contest with a piece of
Ashley Koprowski's KEEPER jewelry as the grand prize, and we’ll also have a live call-in segment with a real psychic medium!

The fun starts on Halloween, Saturday, October 31st at 7:06 pm PST, only on Twitch, so gear up and hunker down for this exciting adventure.

Out today, a new album by one of our biggest inspirations, Christian Kleine. The digital will be NAME YOUR PRICE for today only as part of Bandcamp day's no fee day.

New music from CK is rare, and at 14-tracks, this is one of his most complete, expansive and enjoyable albums to-date. Link in comments

~

When you’re young, you’re heavily inspired by what you love and will do anything to be a part of it. The more you create, the more familiar you become as the years move on, and your ambition to perfect it becomes even stronger.

This natural evolution is something Christian Kleine is well versed in and since his first releases in the early 00’s, Christian has been synonymous with perfecting a particular sound that draws from early IDM, breaks and influences as far reaching as Punk music.

Touch & Fuse continues the melodic, drum-driven finesse he has become known for, but instead of trying to perfect anything new, different or conceptual two decades later, we’re treated to an album unconsciously inspired simply, by the wide variety of music he likes.

The slow waltz of album opener Return of The Underground; the nostalgic synthesizers in Nearfield to Nowhere; the electro-punk undercurrent of Number 6; the acid-tinged Val 2, or the Shoegaze-lulls in album closer Room In The Mirror; Touch & Fuse plays like a trip through Christian’s musical upbringing - snapshots in time, told in a timeless manner.

“Touch & Fuse is my way of reflecting where I am and what interests me, in the hope that other people find something for themselves in there as well. For me, music has the power to change my perspectives on time - it can act like a drug pretending I have seen and experienced things I never would have otherwise
— Christian Kleine

Touch & Fuse will be available on Digipack CD + Digital download at Bandcamp>

Released as part of Bandcamp Day, the digital download will be ‘Name Your Price’ on this day only. Juno and other stores will have copies of the CD mid-October - sign up here.

isolatedmix 103 - GiGi FM : Inner Mycelia Voyage (Full Hunter's Moon Ritual)

isolatedmix103.png

For our 9128.live guest takeovers that some of you may have experienced this past year, we invite other great labels to curate a lineup that is completely on their own terms. What I enjoy the most about this, is that I get to listen to new artists and DJ’s through it, many for the first time (in real time) and it becomes a discovery tool for me just as much as it does to all the listeners.

One of those artists who really jumped out (and was new to me at the time) was GiGi FM. An NTS radio regular DJ and event curator, GiGi was playing as part of the 9128.live Midgar Records takeover at the time. Her set was transcendent, flawless in execution and above all, completely original from anything we had during the multi-hour listening session (available here to listen back); taking us from deep mystical ambient, to tribal and spiritual rhythms all the way through to hypnotic techno. It had those special moments that make you turn to a friend in a club or a field and smile, knowing the journey is taking a new twist; that you’re all in this together on the same level; and it’s only just getting started. Of course, we were just sat at home listening in that example and not dancing under the stars, unfortunately, so I made a point to ask GiGi for an isolatedmix so that we could hear another side and take her storytelling with us whenever and wherever in the future here on ASIP.

GiGi was lovely enough to oblige, and even took the time to match the moment with the Full Moon (today, Thursday October 1st) for an extra special dimension, taking us once again, on another very special, spiritual journey under the stars.

Here’s what GiGi had to say about the mix:

~
Inner Mycelia Voyage is a ritual for the full Hunter's moon coming on October 1st.

Since the beginning of time humankind has always taken communal rituals in dancing as the best attempt to tune into the underlying essence of the universe, which was born out of sound and constant intense vibrating atoms.

Mycelia or mycelium literally means “more than one". Mycelium is one of the oldest living organisms and has helped shape lifeforms on earth. It is the guardian of the earth, the underground internet network of mother nature, making sure nutrients are redistributed to all.

The Full Hunter's Moon in Aries is the first of two Full Moons for the month with a Blue Moon at the month’s end. Having two Full Moons in the same month indicates a theme of clearing and purging.

The shadows are coming to the surface to be birthed into a new light.

Channeling the ancestral earth forces and holding the light of hope is key.

We must remember the wisdom of the numerology code of 2020 offered to us, like mycelia ~ Infinite potential when we work together - GiGi FM.

Mix - Jenus - The Reverse End

awmix2.jpg

It has been a long time since I’ve featured an unrelated to ASIP mix on the blog. That’s not to say I haven’t been listening, but rather, other than the usual podcasts and mix series I stick to which keep me well and truly fed, I haven’t been drawn away by the kind of passion that used to come from a “blog” -type mix. Mixes that are rare, put together with so much passion and have a personal story behind them are rare to come across nowadays. It’s likely the demise of “blogs” as a whole that contributed to this - but I digress - I stumbled across Jenus’ work this week after someone I follow on twitter shared it.

The Reverse End is not just a mix for mix sake, but as put - “basically something I recorded for myself to listen to on my headphones in private”. The tracklist reads like a true fans obsession over the ambient and electronica genre, featuring artists of new and old, more obscure and more familiar, all put together seamlessly.

Along with it being a highly respectable mix, of course, what struck me was getting halfway through the mix and tracklist, noticing some ASIP tracks included, followed further down the page by a lovely write-up by Jenus. Thank you.

Mix available on Soundcloud with a lovely write-up + download options available here.

A Boards of Canada documentary - 'This Is Hexagon Sun'

You can almost guarantee every visitor to this site is a BoC fan to some extent, so take an hour of your life to dive into this new video and get that familiar nostalgia back into your life like only BoC can bring.

A truly outstanding story in narrative, detail, research and passion, that will appeal to anyone with an interest in one of the most revered and respected electronic musicians’ of all time

It reminds me of good times and in particular the passion felt when I started ASIP many years ago - the joy, the chase, the suspense of finding or waiting for new music - not just from BoC, but as this video details, they were (are) the pioneers of this nostalgia culture, this grainy, beautiful melancholic sound and to a great extent, the reason for much of today’s electronic music output.

Thank you Unamusedpirate for this video.
